Playing Dress Up: Elie Tahari for Kohl's DesigNation

Elie Tahari for Kohl's launched yesterday in-store & online. I was unable to make it to the store on Friday due to being called into work, hence the late post! :D So I went in this morning and there was still a ton of stuff left, like a ton, but that's very common for a Kohl's collab anyway. I was pleasantly surprised with the clothes, they really do look better on and the textures were overall very soft.

Check it out if you have a Kohl's nearby, and get 25% off for a limited time, 30% off if you have Kohl's card (lucky ducks). There's also a 15% off coupon floating around so get one of those too!

And without further adieu, here's my Playing Dress Up review:
For reference I am 5'3, and tried on XS and S when XS was not available, I will make note of that.
Prices are shown discounted first with the 25% off promo and then followed by original price.

1.) Mock Layer Sweater in Gray Combo- $48 ($64)
This is one of my top pieces, I only wish they had it available in the cream color. The sweater is soft and also a bit see through if you look at it up close, due to the sweater weave. The Chrysler building printed blouse is the perfect length underneath for wearing over leggings.

2.) Mock Layer Sweater in Bright Cobalt Night $48 ($64)
Styled over French Terry Jogger Pants $37.50 ($50)

I'm wearing a size Small in this one, you'll notice its a bit baggy in the arms, the XS fit better for me.
The joggers were also a Small and too loose, I think sizing down would help a lot but it depends on your style.

3.) Drape Back Mixed Media Top in Blueberry Night. $36 ($48)

This top was very soft and stretchy, the layer panels are nice but too much $$ for such a simple top.

Oh and the back. It looks really weird on as well! I tried to take a picture but couldn't twist enough to take a back shot at it, too bad Kohl's doesn't have the dressing room mirrors that Target has. Anyways, it pokes outward...I don't get it.

4.) Taxi Georgette Top $40.50 ($54)

I like the graphic in theory, but I feel odd in it to be honest. The whole back and sleeves are sheer, so it doesn't have much give-like I'm afraid it could rip or snag. Is anyone else freaked out that theres taxi's driving out of your stomach? Just me? Otherwise great price on sale for an iconic piece.

5.) Open Work Chenille Sweater $48 ($64)

Cute but kind of awkward fitting. It feels like those knitted scarves you buy at your grandmas favorite holiday trade show, which is FINE, but seems hard to care for once you wash it. That's just my assumption. The back is fully opened, again I couldn't take a picture of it on. You can see through it, my nude tank doesn't look very chic underneath at all. On the fence about this one.

6.) Ombre Georgette Tunic Gray Combo $48 ($64)
Paired with Textured Midi Skirt $40.50 ($54)

This is my other favorite piece, the skyline tunic. You can see it better in the next picture as I tucked it into the skirt so you can see how the skirt fits.

The skirt was surprisingly pretty and soft and stretchy, perfect for day to night as it will feel comfy after many meals throughout the day. I like the length too, I love a midi!

The tunic is so cool. I can imagine wearing it with my black wax denim or over faux leather leggings and belted.

7.) Ribbed Funnel Neck Sweater Blueberry $48 ($64)
     Styled over Ombre Georgette Tunic.

This sweater was also another surprise. The cut reminds me of Helmut Lang sweaters, cut shorter in the front and angled longer in the back. It looks pretty street styled over the tunic right?

The neck is kinda of awkward though for me, it may be because I haven't worn such a high neckline since who knows when.

8.) Faux Suede Motorcycle Jacket $75 ($100)
     Style over Ombre Georgette Tunic.

Wow you guys, this jacket is crazy amazing. It might just be the best Kohl's collab jacket ever. I was thinking this was going to be a let down in person, but it's legit. I love how soft it is. And the size is a Small, so definitely size up on this one. They fit tight.

All zippered up over the tunic.

9.) Chenille Sheath Dress $58.50 ($78)

What a fantastic sweater bodycon dress. A long sleeve and midi length is totally A O K for my age and bay area weather. The blue print is very subtle as well, I believe it's another city print. Isn't it still kind of overpriced though?

10.) Mixed Media Sheath Dress $63 ($84)

Chic dress but too much going on for me. It zippers from the bottom almost all the way up to the hips. And the material is not very comfortable, felt stiff on. (Sorry for the annoying hints of yellow on the bottom of these two pics...that's due to my french fry case...oopsie!)

11.) Ombre Convertible Cardigan $68 ($88)
Styled over previous Mixed Media Shift Dress.

The cardigan was just ok. It's very warm and has a detachable scarf that wraps around.  All I can say is ok.

Hope you found my review helpful! Did you shop Elie Tahari for Koh'ls yet? What was your favorite piece?

Elie Tahari for Kohls Designation: Shop Early!

This month is crazy for any designer collaboration lover. I mean I'm still putting things I tried and now NEED in my shopping cart from the Altuzarra for Target collab. Fast forward to this coming week, Helmut Lang for Uniqlo will be be emptying out my pockets...and then Thursday, Sept 26, Kohl's has to play with my heart and drop it's Elie Tahari collection after all this madness.

Kohl's has some great promos for the launch of collections as always so you won't have to be paying full price, but I might actually hold out for awhile to actually purchase anything. The clothes are always waaaay overpriced, and if you wait long enough you can find most items for some amazing deals.

Most importantly, Kohl's decided to launch SOME of the collection early as a presale (limited collection, 3 days only), so you can shop NOW! Use Code: YES2FAM for 20% off! Valid 9/18-21.

Here are my picks....Of the comfortable chic nature.

1. Ombre Georgette Tunic $64 ($51.20  after coupon)
2. Mock Layer Sweater $64 (see above)
3. Taxi Georgette Top $54 ($43.20 after coupon)

A long shirt blouse is a must this season, esp with this cool graphic. Layers are easily done with this sweater blouse combo and comes in three colors. Last but not least, who doesn't love a cool theme sweatshirt?

Will you be shopping this collection? Or are you holding out for one of the many other collabs?

Come back next week, I'll be "Playing Dress Up" and reviewing Elie Tahari on Friday!

Playing Dress Up: Altuzarra for Target

I skimmed the Altuzarra for Target collection online at midnight but I was determined to get whatever I liked in store. I had a feeling at the higher price point most of the items are at, that there would be a lot leftover. And there was, but that doesn't mean the collaboration wasn't fabulous, because I j'adored it!

Here's the line outside Target at 7:45am.
Pretty tame.

And the racks after my playing dress up and countless selfies in the dressing room.

Still pretty stocked and a lot to choose from.

And now the fun part!
For reference I am 5'3 and tried on size 2 & XS, unless noted otherwise.

Playing Dress Up:

1.) Maxi Dress Swiss Dot. Black. $79.99

I'm crazy about this dress! Angeline Jolie meets Rachel Zoe, very boho glam! The dot print on top the sheer overlay is just beautiful. And the length, I'm petite and I can't believe I wouldn't have to tailor this dress if I bought it. This dress is off the charts.

2.) Faux Fur Jacket. $69.99.

Straight up Real Housewives of New Jersey over here.
And I'm kind of loving it! :D
It's really warm and heavy too but not crazy bulky.

I was wearing the fur over this tuxedo dress. It had great details from the embroidery down to the gold side zipper. I believe this one was a size 4 (the only dress I tried that wasn't a 2), so I went up a size, it fits like a glove so keep that in mind.

  And a slit to boot.

4.) Velvet Blazer. Ruby Hill. $59.99.
5.)Velvet Tuxedo Ankle Pants. Ruby Hill. $39.99.

That 70s outfit.

I broke it up into piece by piece and also shown worn together.
Truth be told, I thought this was hideous when I saw it online and on some morning show. It doesn't read well on TV I think. But it's actually really really cute. I love a good blazer, and this is a fantastic one. Pockets are not functional though, but the velvet is very luxe and soft.
The pants are pretty cool too. I love the ankle fit. The problem is with the bunching in the crotch, it's kind of low rise too. I wish I tried on the black pair. And while it's a pretty unique outfit I can't get over the fact that I'm sort of channeling Zac Posen, right?

6.) Satin Dress Orchid Print. Purple. $49.99.

Beautiful color, nice dress in theory but this dress was a total fail. It's a non stretch material and not the same material of the long black stretchy orchid dress. It fit really odd on the top and was very tight, sizing up would not help because it gets loose in the shoulders.

I literally couldn't stretch my arms up any higher than this picture below.
It was opposite that classic moment in the movie the  Christmas Story, "I can't put my arms down!"
I can't put my arms up!

7.) Peasant Dress w/Embroidery. Ruby Hill. $54.99.

And my most favorite dress! I love the color, I love the style, I love the pockets, the tassels, the sequins, the embroidery (breath-GASP!), IT'S REALLY GOOD.

8.) Sweater w/Crane Embroidery. $49.99.

My name is Franci and I'm a sweater-holic. And my real reason for shopping Altuzarra for Target this morning you ask? This sweater.  Its fabulous as far as sweaters go, and the gold cranes are magical (I can't prove that). I really like the material and stretchy softness. The long sleeves are perfect for long arms. I'm going to treasure it.

9.) Orchid Print Sweater. $29.99.

This sweater completely surprised me. I thought the flower print would look really cheap and stiff in person, but it's very silky smooth and looks pretty. The price is right too.

10.) Over the Knee Boot. $79.99.

After I was done shopping I went to see what shoes were left, only the boots. So naturally I tried these heart breakers on. They are actually easy to walk in and comfortable. The bad news? Well I have a lack of calves unfortunately, so I couldn't fill it out. And it bunched at the ankles.

11.) Faux Croc Belt. $29.99.
12.) Sheer Swiss Dot Scarf. $29.99.

I love the belt, it will accent many dresses, high waisted skirts, and trench coats.
The fringe scarf is a nice dose of boho-chic.
Overall, this has to be the most impressive collaboration at Target yet. The pictures online did no justice. In person it was impressive, beautiful and quality made (real embroidery, functional details from buttons, zippers to heavy weighted material) at least as much as Target can achieve at their price point.

A lot of the items surpassed my expectations and surprised me. Some of my favorite pieces look like they could actually be from Nordstrom or even Altuzarra's designer line, no joke.

And like any collab addict, here's my haul. :)

What did you think of the collection?

Falling for Designer Collabs!

September rolled in, pumpkin spice lattes and all,
and I can't stop thinking about fall fashion.
Designers were feeling the same because there's a handful of collaborations hitting the stores these coming months, quite a few this month actually! Ahhh I'm scared for my wallet!

Altuzarra for Target is launching in just a few days. Mark your calendars: September 14.
This is going to be a good one.
See my previous post--> AltuzarraxTarget Lookbook is here!

Chic, classy and work wear to party friendly you will find it hard to resist at least trying to grab something. I have my eyes on the gold embroidered crane sweater above!

And this AltuzarraxTarget trench looks amazing on Keri Russel don't you think?

Elie Tahari for Kohls DesigNation. Launch date: September 26.

These cityscape prints and NYC street style vibe is totally on point for the season. I'm excited to see it all in person.

Helmut Lang for Uniqlo (thanks to Tracy from Tracy's Notebook of Style for the heads up! We are both obsessing over this sweater cape hoodie!). Launch Date: September 22nd.

Sweat collection for women & men! I love.

and coming soon...

Alexander Wang for H&M. Launch Date: November 6.
The style? Sportswear and norm core. Not crazy about RiRi's outfit here that Alexander Wang posted on Instagram, but I'm still excited to see the rest of the collection!

I feel like I'm going to have a ton of black and grey and white in my closet come December.
That's cool with me, anyone else need a break from all the bright spring/summer colors?

Prabal Gurung for M.A.C Cosmetics. Launch date: November 26.

Yowza! A 14 piece collection, on the pricey side since the packaging is so luxe.

"The packaging of the products itself is inspired by the jeweled minaudieres of the 1920’s, intending to make a woman feel beautiful even before she puts the makeup on."

I'm on the edge of my seat ladies! Which collab are you most excited to shop?

Come back to my blog and Instagram on Sept 14th as I will be covering he launch in-stores for Altuzarra at Target. My "Playing Dress Up Post" will be up that morning by noon-ish.
