Modcloth: And the award goes to...

When Modcloth approached me to feature a dress of theirs in my next collage for their weekly polyvore challenge, naturally I thought of a suitable Oscar watching ensemble. I religiously watch the The Oscars red carpet and show each year, for the fashion of course! And I do love a good movie and some buttered smothered popcorn. Mmm.

The featured dress is called "Lead by Example Dress." It made me think of the leading lady in a movie. One of my favorites is Zooey Deschanel and I always look forward to her quirky red carpet outfits.

This blue dress is easy to wear, dress up or down, to work, for play and for an Oscar themed party, obviously. Entertaining your friends never looked so cute. Grab your popcorn (pillow), dazzling gold jewelry, a trench for running a quick last min pizza pick up. You will need your phone for up to the minute #Oscars updates. And a cat bowler hat, because you know, cats. ;)

Will you be watching The Oscars this Sunday? What item from my collage would you bring to the party?

And be sure to return for my Monday red carpet faves :D

OOTD: Pairings

Wearing my new Peter Pilotto for Target shirt & sunnies, enjoying wine with friends, sounds like the perfect afternoon pairing to me.

I went wine tasting in Morgan Hill earlier this week. It's no Napa, but it gets the job done. You would be surprised at how beautiful the tasting rooms are, very scenic.

I haven't mentioned how much I love this pattern. My favorite piece from the Target collab. I paired it with my pleated skirt (a Jason Wu for Target, oldie but goodie!),my fave black and white accessories, mod sunglasses & checkered flats, oh and wine!

What I'm Wearing:
Peter Pilotto for Target Sunglasses (Check in select Target stores) & Green Floral Stripe blouse, Jason Wu for Target Pleated Skirt (similiar here), The Cambridge Satchel Company, Tildon Calla mary janes (*sold out at Nordstrom. similiar style).
Makeup: Physician's Formula Super CC Cream, Concealer & CC Powder! Such a steal at CVS right now, all 40% off and a $4 off coupon when you spend $12, ends 2/22.

Trying to take a #FromWhereIStand shot of our fashionable shoes and wine, but this is how it really looks to everyone else. :D

To see the shot I got view it on my Instagram: TheFashionPalate

How fab are my friend's shoes btw?

Palm trees and vineyards, we so live in California. ;)

Have a twirl worthy weekend friends!

Ipsy Glam Bag: February 2014

The month of love has arrived, and Ipsy is celebrating with the February theme of
"The Look of Love."

I'm pleased with the selection. Last month was just OK. (I actually received two bags last month, because of my address change..OOPS! But good for me, I got to try more products).

Here it all is! Complete with a simple pink Ipsy makeup bag with leopard print lining.
All 5 products for $10.
If you would like to sign up, feel free to use my link: http://www.ipsy.com/r/1pce

Zoya Nail Polish "Dot"
I love Zoya, and I was really excited to hear I would be getting one in my bag again this month. And it came in a light baby pink color (no shimmer!) I've been looking for everywhere. It's gorg. My problem is it took 3 layers of polish to get the perfect application, it smudges soooo easily and takes a while to dry. It's worth it though.
 Love.

'tini Beauty
Eyetini Cordial Cream Shadow in Violette *shade exclusive to Ipsy.
Not gonna lie...I thought this was lip gloss at first glance! HAH, silly. Although, it would make a great lip gloss. It's actually a (vegan, cruelty free) cream eyeshadow. And I received the Ipsy exclusive color too! Score.

Pop Beauty
I think I'm going to give this one to a friend, I just don't really need another lip gloss. I like the slim packaging though, easy to put in your pocket.
J.Cats
I've been wanting to try J.Cats, but I got the eyelashes. Not totally excited since I've already have a ton of eyelashes to use!

Skyn Iceland
I was really excited to try another Skyn Iceland product. I was introduced to the brand by Ipsy a few months back and I just loved the product. Bonus is that Ipsy subscribers receive a discount, 50% off any Skyn product, so now I can finally restock the $30 eye gels I fell in love with.

Do you subscribe to Ipsy? What did you like?

Everyone gets different products, for more see Tracy's Notebook of Style.

Playing Dress Up: Ambar at Target

I first noticed this new brand Ambar at Target while I was shopping the Peter Pilotto for Target launch. I was like, what is the cuteness?! The materials were more impressive than a lot of the Peter Pilotto stuff! While still very colorful and full of print, these were designed for the Latina in mind...but really anyone and everyone should try it on. I just happen to be Mexican, so why not.

Still I wouldn't wear most of this on the daily, but for the more daring these are really cute clothes! But that's what the fitting room is for, maybe I'll change my mind and go home with that floral print dress (um gorgeous!).

These pants are way to cute, I'd rather see them on other people than myself though.
I could wear the skirt though!
Aztec like print Jumper.
Tropical birds!

Very Miami right?

Muy caliente!

Love this dress on the hanger, but it didn't fit me. :(

And then I tried on a few for the fun of it!
Plus it may help you decide if you are shopping online what you like or don't.

For reference I tried on XS, S in tops & dresses, Size 2 and 4 in Skirts, Size 2 in Pants.

4. Jumper

Look 1 didn't fit, too loose in the shoulders and it's the smallest size, Love look 2&3! The dress is a bit tight so you may size up. I'm liking this classier version of the crop top too. Look 4, the Jumper..um no! Just not my style of print but I like the fit.

1. See crop top link above & Pointe Skirt
2. Bird Crop Top & Pointe Skirt w/Mesh.
4. Bird print pant & Jersey Tank (see above)

Can you tell which two I like most?
Look 1, yes to everything, the blue skirt is a size 4 and fits great while the top I also tried the size S and was really cute, although I might get the XS.
Look 2 is alright, everything fits nicely the skirt is a cotton stretch with turquoise mesh.
Look 3, Love. The floral skirt is perfect and very thick material with stretch. The tank is also very soft and has a cute cheetah print along the back.
Look 4, nah, the pants don't fit, it's a size 2, size 2's at Target never fit me.

Have you tried Ambar at Target yet? Anything catch your eye?
P.s. Everything is on sale right now, click my shopping affiliate links to check it out.

Sweet Valentine: Swatch Pastry Chefs

Swatch- Pastry Chefs debuted this month!
And it just might be the sweetest watch ever. ;)

Guys, I found the perfect Valentine's day gift!
Tell your husband, boyfriend, friend, yourself, to put these watches by Swatch on your list.

I went in-store and perused the whole selection.
I have to add that they are affordable, priced at around $50-70.

  Cute after cute after cute!
French Macarons & mint swirls.

Variety pack of old fashioned candies.

 Candy stripes!

Waffle print and peppercane. Hypnotizing!

These two were by far my favorite and also the bestsellers at the store.
This watch above resembles those candy necklaces and bracelets we used to wear as kids! They look so realistic!
I'm really in love with the sprinkles. Pretty much everything looks/taste better with sprinkles! Mmm...what time is it anyway?

Since I'm super curious, kind of nosy, I chatted up the salesman and he brought out the limited edition Pastry Chefs watch to show me. This watch labeled "DreamCake" is well priced at $120.  It's designed for pastry chef Sara Hochuli. I love the yummy pastel pink and the the cute cake servers replace the watch hands, that's my favorite element. There's a big pink bow and along the watch there is a cherry blossom pattern.

A sucker for packaging, check out this collectible watch box.
It's a two tiered cake designed with cherry blossoms.

These are the most delicious watches I've seen. Being a baker and pastry fanatic, I have to get one.
Which one is your favorite?

Mani Monday: All Hearts

It's Valentine's day week!
Probably one of my favorite themed nails of the year.
I love pink, red and cuteness.

I'll be using quite a few polishes this Mani Monday.

Butter London "lillibet's Jubilee" (similar color here) with Gwen Stefani x OPI "Hey Baby."

O hey now, I just realized my fave ladies are on my finger nails!

And here's the final look!
I'm all hearts about it.
Can you believe that's only one coat of Butter London. And the hearts on top I made using a bobby pin.  As for the accent nail, I was inspired by The Beauty Department's tutorial but I didn't follow all the directions. I free handed the heart shapes with a bobby pin.

Looks pretty good with my #OOTD.

Do you paint your nails for Valentine's Day?

Playing Dress Up: Peter Pilotto for Target

It's that time again! I made it to Target today at 7:35am and I was first in line to shop Peter Pilotto for Target. That should be a red flag right? Followed by a few more girls 5 mins later, there was hardly a fight for the clothes. I had my pick of anything I wanted to try in my size. I was disappointed that my location did not have the white/black sunglasses that I was craving. But found a few things on my list to try.

peter pilloto for target
Me and my girl @FashionChicsta were posting a bit in the dressing room, make sure to check out her size and quality reviews on her Instagram too as well as mine @TheFashionPalate!
peter pilloto for target
I love playing dress up and I hope this helps you make a decision in case you are shopping the Peter Pilotto for Target online at Target or Net-A-Porter today.

For sizing reference I'm 5'3 and wear XS, Size 25 pants.
Everything I tried on was a size 2 or XS.

Playing Dress Up:

1.
peter pilloto for target floral stripe top

peter pilloto for target top-green floral stripe print, pant black check print
and

These both made it on my list, the floral was my fave from the get go and the pants I just lusted for yesterday. I have to say I am on the fence with the pants. They were a thin material like polyester, and I'm just not used to my pants being a t-shirt material...so odd! But they are cute, fit is nice a little loose on the thighs, and cute ankle length. I passed on the pants, but the top was perfect! So cute, and will go with jeans, pants, shorts, skirts tucked in or left out. Versatile to the max and TTS (True to Size).

2.
This was on my list. While it was very soft, fleece on the inside, much like the NMxT sweater, the print was a teensy stiff but nothing that would bother me. I like it but I wasn't committed only because I have like 50 grey sweaters in my closet right now..but for clearance I may come back for it. TTS.

3.
peter pilloto for target colorblock blazer

While it kind of appears to fit right on me, it really was two sizes to big on the shoulders!
It is a really cute color block blazer and has great style but not worth it to tailor. The pockets aren't functional either. That's a whomp whomp.
Here's a close up of the detail of the bottom half has a pebbled texture.
I would size down on this if you can.

4.

peter pilloto for target shirt dress
I like the fit and the colors but something about it...I passed. It would look better with black tights. At the neck the black & white pattern is actually lace and the rest of it is polyester. It's TTS.

5.

This was on my list. However, I'm not loving the bottom print section, looks cheaper in person, but from far away it looks chic. I wish this was a stretchy body con skirt and not a stiff cotton. It is also very tight on the waist, and you have to wear it high-waisted or else it just won't fit. Maybe size up to be safe. This was pretty snug for me and there's not much give.

6.
peter pilloto for target cardigan
Totally cute cardigan with mesh sleeves and back but the price is not right.
This is def. clearance worthy.
TTS, sits at waist line.

7.
This Crisscross dress did not make me Jump! Jump! (yeah I made that reference.)
Oops a bit blurry! My phone brightness setting was set on low so I couldn't tell what I was doing, lol.
You can see that the top around the chest is wrapped and gathered. Kind of interesting, like the colors, but this is so not me. The material is soft and t-shirt like, stretchy and comparable to the PLxTarget cheetah print long sleeve dress. TTS.

9.

This little frilly thing is very cute. I like it and this is my favorite color combo out of the line. Who doesn't like stripes and floral for spring? But, the material is cheap and not worth the price point. Keep your eye on clearance. TTS. No stretch.
 10.
I'm looking sleepier and sleepier! I had a long night of selling of cupcakes but anyway back to the skirt. Cute but hard to wear. Not my style and I don't like the color and prints. It reminds me of those skorts we used to wear in the 90s except there's no shorts underneath this. Meh. It's is TTS.

11.

These shorts are ridic. Nothing about them is good. I'm not going to lie. High-waisted, huge flare at the bottom. Makes my tiny legs look even tinier. It's just wrong. I think this would only look good on Beyonce, tiny waist, bigger thighs. UGH. And the back has the blue print, it's like diapers or boxers. I had a good laugh at least. ;)

12.
peter pilloto for target slip on shoe
Ahhhhhh shoes! They were too cute to pass up. I got a size 7 since they only run in full sizes. I'm usually a size 7.5 so if you are a halfer, go down the size. They were perfect. There's cushion on the ankles, sooo comfy!

What I came home with.

Did you shop the PPxTarget Collection? What were your favorites or least favorites?
