Beauty Review: Marc Jacobs Hi-Shine Lacquer

Earlier this week I reviewed the Blacquer Highliner by Marc Jacobs at Sephora. I shared the good the bad and the smudgy. Needless to say I had mixed reviews.

Today I wanted to share with you another MJBeauty product I bought and I'm enamored with. The Hi-Shine Lacquer in Enamored. It was so hard to choose as you can see the choices were plenty! I chose the one that was the brightest and stood out from the crowd. I'll be back for Blue Velvet & Funny Face.

Marc Jacobs
Enamored Hi-Shine Lacquer
Featuring: Lux

Beauty Review:

The product description is said to have a "Wet look. Plasticized finish. Extreme wear." $18 a pop.
What I love most about this product is that Marc Jacobs customized it himself. With a "curve-hugging brush that optimizes application and the curvature of the bottle resembles a smile. Each shade is 3-Free: formulated without toluene, formaldehyde, and DBP."

I mean how cute, the bottle is smiling at you!

The Good:
* The polish finishes shiny. I only used about two coats and it was plenty. It def has a Barbie kind of look, like plastic, too good to be true! Even the hubby commented that it was shiny.
Note that I did NOT use a topcoat.  For sure my manicure would've lasted longer had I added a topcoat.
*The polish w/out a topcoat & with a base coat lasted a full week without chips.
*Dries fast.
* The color is saturated and fabulous, yes quite "Lux". I have no color like this chartreuse-ish, marigold-yellow in my collection. This is going to look great in the fall for a little oomph and paired with black, cream, grey and wine wardrobe.

The Bad:
* Nothing.
* Wait one thing. The fact that I only bought ONE! I need more, lol!

What do you think of the color? What MJ beauty product(s) did you end up getting?

Beauty Review: Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner

As most of you know Marc Jacobs revealed his new line of beauty products a few weeks ago at Sephora. The line draws inspiration from moods, icons and music (which you can tell from the names of the products) names like "Funny Face" a la an Audrey Hepburn classic movie for a nail lacquer. I couldn't wait to get my hands on them. But of course I had to to make a few choices on what I was bringing home with me.

Here's what I saw:

Marc's faves. Plus a Remedy concealer pen that is said to rival YSL's Touche Eclat. And a bronzer powder.

An eyeshadow palette of not five but SEVEN!

I think all the lip vinyl's were falling down from an exhausting launch day!

Here's what I bought:

Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner-Gel Crayon
in 42 Blacquer-Black

Beauty Review:
This is said to be rich in pigment, waterproof and the blackest of black and shiniest. It is one of six colors, $25 and includes a built in sharpener on the end.

The Good!
*VERY richly pigmented, this is one of the darkest black liners I own.
*Long lasting, the WHOLE day. DEF waterproof, you CANNOT wash this off without using an eye makeup remover. And it has to be a good eye makeup remover, my Simple facial wipes & SkinFood makeup remover don't even come close. I went out and purchased Make Up For Ever Sens'Eyes. (I'll do a review on that later), that seemed to do the trick.

      The Bad.
*About the sucks. The very first sharpening I did worked fine. But the second time, it was a mess. My Highliner crayon tip broke off, so I had to twist out another round. Very hesitant to keep sharpening it since the crayon is so soft, it may break off again.
*The Highliner smudged right away on my eyelid crease. I had to reach for the makeup setting spray to set it in and try to keep my eyes wide open so my crease wouldn't touch my lined eyes. I never thought I had oily eyelids, but maybe I do. Most reviewers seem not to be having this problem.
I give this product a Mixed Bag, it's a love hate relationship.
I wanted to love it, but the smudges on the crease and the horrible sharpening experience made me not want to buy it again. It def had it's High's and Lows. I'm crazy about the color though and how it enhances my eyes, so I'm still going to use it. I'll just have to wait for the liner to set before going out.
I'm wondering if the Precision Pen would've worked better on me.
For $30, I don't think I will take the risk.

Stay tuned this week for my Marc Jacobs Hi-Shine Laquer review!

Have you tried any of the Marc Jacobs Beauty products?

Marshalls Project Fab: My $100 OOTD Challenge

I'm so excited to tell you that my favorite designer bargain store Marshalls has sent me a $100 gift card to participate in a contest called Project Fab to find the most fab items I can and share my findings with you. Being an avid Marshalls shopper as you may have noticed on Instagram, Twitter & Facebook, I'm not afraid to scour the racks to find the best deal. And you know how much I love a bargain, so this was quite the fun task for me.

I made myself a goal, I wanted to find a chic head to toe outfit with name brand pieces while staying within my $100 gift card budget. It wasn't necessary to do, but I love giving myself a challenge to prove my bargain hunting skills. ;)

I already had my mind set on a pair of shoes and a clutch that I HAD to have, so going in to the store I was prepared to center my outfit focus on these two pieces and bring it together with a chic edgy ecombo.

Let's see how far $100 can go at Marshalls, shall we?

Start Cost at $100.

1. Must-have gold cut-out flats by Kenneth Cole Reaction $25 on clearance! Such a steal compared to the going rate online right now for $69.95!
$100-$25= $75 left to spend

2. TasHa (Nordstrom brand) studded clutch with knuckle bling! For $29.99 this is a statement piece-not to be messed around with!

$100-$25-$29.99= $45.01 to spare

3. Black & White Stripe Top w/Vegan Leather side detail by Cynthia Rowley. This is going to give me the Parisian chic touch I'm aiming for.

$100-$25-$29.99-$14.99= $30.02 can I do it?

4. Free People black moto stretch pant, on trend and perfect for fall! A great basic piece that is versatile yet with an edge.
$100-$25-$29.99-$14.99-$34.99= -$4.97

This whole OOTD cost me
 ...a grand total of....
$104.97 (not including tax)!!

Just putting me over the $100 mark by $4.97. Not bad at all.

Here's how I ended up styling it.

My final touch was the bow on top and a red lip.
Feeling very Audrey Hepburn.

It feels pretty darn fabulous to find a whole ensemble at Marshalls for ~ $100.
It can be done ladies & gents!
And with this complete OOTD I felt like I can take on the baking world by storm. Oui!

*Disclosure: I have received free products or value from Marshalls or The TJX Companies, Inc. in connection with my affiliation with Marshalls Project FAB.

#ReadySetFinished: Event Recap

Thursday evening was a fabulous time spent (in between my busy day baking) at Ann Taylor for the #ReadySetFinished Birchbox event. I visited the location in Palo Alto at the Stanford Shopping Center.
Wearing: Gap Boyfriend Jeans, Ann Taylor flats (old), Stand In Chanel bag ;), H&M tops, Chanel Sunnies.
What drew me out was the amazing Birchbox gift you get for showing up to the party, a box full of full sample size Juice Beauty products.
This little American Eskimo friend was excited too.
You can follow Ruckus Eskie on Facebook!
He's not mine (I'm a cat person) but he's SO cute.

I'll try these products out next week and review them for you! I've never used a Juice Beauty product before so I am excited to see how they work.

The best part of the party? A table full of delicious treats. Chocolates provided by Which me and my group gladly tried them all! For research purposes...

There was of course a ton of cute fashion to be admired!
Beautiful new shoes.

 Sale shoes!

I also ran into Kate from The Fancy Pants Report, she was the blogger host for the night. It's so nice to meet other bay area bloggers, everyone is always so sweet.

I have an extra unopened Juice Beauty Birchbox from the event and I'm giving it away to you Bay Area San Jose locals! Visit my TFP Cupcakes & Sweets table tonight, 6-10pm at The Black Cat Collective & Ecomonster Event, first person to mention Birchbox to me will be the winner! If you miss out, there's always cupcakes and madeleines!
