Fashion Hunters: "Price Wars"

A tough cookie, inconsistent pricing, and hair extensions.

Lets start off with the lady wanting $3,000 for a Marc Jacobs gown from 2004?! Say what? She be crazy.
I think her Russian accent scared Tara because she ended up negotiating for $1,600 still a lot of moola.

Christian Louboutin's show up, lime green and a custom flat black shoe. Yumm both priced under $500 each! This pricing ended up being a great surprise for the consigner but not such a good thing for Karina and Wilson. They had to push the price down to $300. I'm with Karina and Wilson this time, I really do think they could've sold the brand new conditiion Louboutin's for $500!

Bring on the annual authentication process, there's always one each episode. I think this is my favorite part actually. I like the anticipation. This time they are authenticating a Valentino dress. This week professional is vintage expert is Keni Valenti. After investigating the stitching and zipper, no french seems, he comes to the conclusion that it's a faux Valentino. Aw. always sad when they don't have a great find.

The funny part of this episode was the complete honesty of the consigner. she is selling her one of a kind custom made jewelry all for the money, so she can buy hair extensions for her younger prospecting boyfriends! Hilarious.I wish the consigners would really admit why they are selling their designer goods.

I just changed my mind, my favorite part of tonight's episode was the clip with Ambria blushing over the idea of shopping online! It was too funny when she sheepishly mentioned she sometimes shops online with her friend too. Omg that was an honest moment for sure. I think a lot of us can relate to how much fun shopping can be and even a little negotiation is exciting.

CRAP. Kelly Bensimon is on next weeks episode...ughhhhhhhhhhhh.

Fashion Hunters: The Promised Land

"Can't judge a book by it's raincoat."

Rosemary a consigner comes in wearing a Lady Gaga prototype raincoat of sorts. She is selling off a pair of Miu Miu pumps for selling at the shop for $275 because the color hot pink makes her sick. Disagree with that, love hot pink!

She also brings in this killer black and gold gilded heel, a pair of Proenza Schouler shoes for $325. Done and done.

Rebecca Weinberg a stylist for Sex and the City shows up for vintage options for supermodel Julie Henderson. (Gah, Second Time Around does not sell vintage!) Ambria tries to make it werq, anything for Rebecca! Especially if she is a prospect returning consigner, imagine all the fabulous pieces in this stylist closet! I need to move to New York asap for this fact alone.

Looking for vintage pieces for Rebecca has turned into the promised land according to Ambria, having tried on a 1960s black sequin Valentina mini dress which was gorge. And omg the Halston 70s pink dress was ahh-mazing and perfect for a supermodel! That would've been my pick.

Knock knock, YSL shows up at the Second Time Around door..with a very sketchy label that is half sewn in. This calls for a stop by from Marie Claire Magazine's  Zana Roberts Rossi for her expert opinion. A whole of work for this Russian collection YSL velvet coat..don't know about you but I'm just not crazy about it. Well thank goodness it was a fakey, made in the USA was a dead giveaway.

Very exciting episode, even if this is a late post!

The Look For Less: Gucci, Gold, and Pleats, Oh My!

Today's Look For Less features this gorge Gucci Resort 2012 Collection.

Fabulous amirite?
God knows the price on this Gucci Skirt, but I'm seeing this metallic skirt trend all over the place from designer to smaller store brands. Its definitely a statement piece, and can be dressed up and down. I would dress this down, with a light cable knit sweater tucked in the skirt.

Here's a few of the Looks For Less I found:

Oasis Shimmer Metallic Pleated Mini Skirt @ ASOS for $81.81

Out Of This World Gold Skirt @ Lulus for $47.00.

Here's Chloe Moretz rocking her gold skirt on a cover of French mag Jalouse!

Pantone: Spring 2012 Most Popular Colors

The colors are in, what are the most popular hues for spring 2012 as reported from the Pantone Color Institute.

2011 it was all about honey suckle, very fun and cute color. Next May its all about Tangerine Tango, followed by three other hues that are literally my favorite right now. Good to know what to keep in the wardrobe and what not to invest in anymore this year.

The artistic side of me is so color geeking out about this list!

The 10 Flattering Colors You’re Going to Want to Wear In Spring 2012: glamour.com

"Listed in order of popularity, Spring 2012's It-Colors for women are (from top down) Tangerine Tango, Solar Power, Sodalite Blue, Cabaret, Starfish, Margarita, Sweet Lilac, Driftwood, Bellflower and Cockatoo."

What color are you most excited for?

Clothes Encounters: Adam Lippes

I recently won an amazing wool knit sweater by a New York based designer Adam Lippes who showed at Mercedes Fall Fashion Week 2011. I was so surprised I even won and I started imaging different ways to wear my new sweater immediately!

The item I won is from the Fall 2011 Adam Collection and it is called "Chunky Wool Sweater" in Midnight, a Navy blue.

Here it is in Stone.

Notice the open knit pattern, (*Side Note: Remember when I interviewed designer Christopher Collins earlier this year, he told me open knit sweaters were going to be huge this fall! Thanks Chris!) and the contrasted v-neck knit around the neckline. Details like this make sweaters anything but ordinary.

Anyway, so I came up with a few different ways to wear this. its so versatile. I have been wearing it with jeans, leggings, over a dress and my favorite way, with a mini skirt.

Clothes Encounters:
Chunky Wool Sweater in Midnight by ADAM
Velvet grey mini by Banana Republic
Red beaded necklace from Jest Jewels
Navy DKNY tights
Ring by Bela Koi
Tiffany & Co Return to Tiffany tag bracelet
L.A.M.B handbag
Sapphire Gem Hair Bling by INKhandcrafted

Thanks so much to ADAM on Facebook for putting together this sweet giveaway. I love my new sweater!

Also wanted to mention that I had my hair dried and blown out at Halo- A Dry Bar in Palo Alto.
It was my first time trying out a blow dry bar and I LOVED it. There are several types of blow outs to choose from, I asked for volume and loose curls, embarrassingly enough I asked for the "Kim Kardashian." Obviously she is known for her long locks with beautiful bounce. The hair dresser knew what I was talking about of course, so I think I get a pass for making a Kardashian reference, thank you :D

Back to Halo, if any of you ladies are looking to get your hair done, I would recommend coming here. Its very affordable for $35 a blow out. Costs go higher if you want an up do, as expected. Expect about 35 minutes for short hair and up to an hour for long hair, like mine.

I will return, after all I bought this Ahh-mazing Daily Candy deal for 3 blow outs for $65 here: Daily Candy-Halo Blow Dry bar. Get it while you still can!

Last but not least-  I received my INKhandcrafted order of a Sapphire Gem Hair Bling Clip.  A nice finishing touch to a great hair day! ;) Expect to hear more about INKhandcrafted on The Fashion Palate and on Mode Bay Area.

Clothes Encounters: Missoni for Target and Touches of Gold

This Friday I headed out to J.Lohr's wine member's party at the San Jose Hilton. J.Lohr is a local wine tasting room on The Alameda in Santa Clara.

I was having a what to wear moment, trying on tons of outfits and making a big mess out of my closet and then I finally came up with this one.
Missoni for Target zig zag pattern dress
Black sweater tights
Teal Sweater
Black Blazer by Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti
Necklace from Francesca's Collection
Kate Spade Gem Bracelet

I was also shopping that afternoon and picked up this unique circle woven gold & silver vintage clutch from It's a Girl Thing, a vintage and consignment shop in Willow Glen.

I love it. It's so different than the usual square or rectangular clutch. Another added bonus is that it actually holds a lot of stuff. I can comfortably fit my lipstick and cellphone inside. It has a long gold chain and small interior pocket. For $24 it could not be passed up!

I also decided to compliment this look with my new InPink Bezel Set Yellow Rhinestone Hammered Gold Tone Ring.

It's definitely adds a little sparkle to my outfit.

The Look for Less: Sequin Booties

Sequins and glitter are all around, It's that time of year for festive foot wear! Usually I don't invest in anything too crazy for the holidays, but this year I find it very hard to resist all that is sparkling and shining in my eyes. And I'm going to indulge myself but not to the point to no coffee money. This girl needs her coffee money. So I give you The Look for Less.

Low and behold, glitter booties!

Here is the "It's gonna cost you a pretty penny" version.

Kate Spade NY "Kleo" ankle bootie for $598

Gasp! Right? Pretty amazing. And pretty pricey. Not gonna happen for this fashionista.

I'm always looking for the better bargain but I have expensive taste. Surfing the web, I ran into these babies (pretty much exact replica, no?), I will call this find, "Coffee change" or The Look for Less:

Nine West "Delly"
Here's the best part, these originally sell for $119. Nine West has them for sale right now for $59. And if that's not already low enough for you, if you go into your local Nine West store this week, all sale shoes are also 30% off! So that made my purchase with tax come out to $45!

That's it ladies, always shop around and you may just find your sparkling surprise.

Here's how I wore mine last night at Santana Row :)

I'm also wearing a lot of other good deals!
Banana Republic cable knit sweater (from the outlet)
Belt by H&M
Diesel Jeans (found at Crossroads in Santa Clara for $15!)
L.A.M.B handbag
Kate Spade Bracelet (Another really good deal that I will share later!)

Fashion Hunters: "Eco-Fashion Party"

First stop: home base, Second Time Around.Gorgeous Gucci pumps retailed $1300. Consigner wants $600 and that's not gonna happen, the Fashion Hunters generously give her 50% split on profits. Super sucks that she never wore it. Ugh I would kick myself, but I would never buy that expensive of an item and never wear it! Matter of fact, if I ever buy a shoe that costs over $1000 it's because I reaaaally wanted it and would wear it to death.

Next stop: Eco-Friendly house tour.
Let me tell you this isn't hippie stuff, it costs a lot to be Eco-friendly. The Eco-friendly home owning consigner has an Eco-friendly-not-so-much collection of clothes. D&G polka dot black suit (shop price $500) and also a gorgeous $5000 Roland Nivelais sapphire sequin dress! Hellloo, Obsessed with that color right now!

Tara gets ambitious and enthused after her Eco-friendly house go around. And so she has this crazy good  idea for an Eco-friendly party at the shop. But she just ends up getting a bit crazy. Anything but good. The party turns out just fine, of course, except for the fact that (did anyone else notice?) Wilson was wearing suede shoes. He says in reply to Ambria's compliment on his green shoes, yeah "I'm going green..." green suede. (So are these recycled suede shoes?) Hmmm...

It's Just a Cavalli.

Lets not forget the "collector" who shows up to consign a Just Cavalli jacket. Not Roberto Cavalli, JUST Cavalli. So funny to see the back and forth between the consigner and Wilson. (Really though, why do these people spend so much on JUST the designers low end clothes, and expect so much when they go to resell?) This is the response the "collector" gives to Wilson, "So lets JUST say, $1800." After a long discussion on what's JUST this and what's JUST that, he ends up not selling the jacket. I wonder if he tried selling it on Ebay.

*Side note:  Did a little research and the Just Cavalli Studded leather jacket was on sale on The Outnet & Niemen Marcus for $868 and it's also sold out.

Ok, over Just Cavalli now.

What I learned: Caterpillars are never over worked in the making of Eco-Friendly silk clothing.

Next week on Fashion Hunters: VALENTINO! And possibly over worked silk making Caterpillars. Awe.

Fab Five Friday

I'm currently obsessed with jewel tones, specifically emerald and sapphire. They look awesome on their own and even more amazing mashed up together. Rich, sophisticate and inviting, you will definitely people please in these tones.

These are intense hair clips! They would look great adorned alongside a sideways bun or up do.

Just like a ring pop only the band can also be enjoyed, these would be great for a holiday party.

Emerald J Brand Skinnies of course! Pair it up with a Sapphire blue chunky knit sweater and some black sequined booties and your ready for cocktail hour.

Speaking of cocktail hour, don't forget your clutch! This one is to die for, and of course its Kate Spade New York.

Last but not least, a show stopping, jaw dropping, sequined sapphire blue one shoulder dress by Rachel Zoe.

Fresh to death.

I hope this got you in the mood to party, because it definitely had that affect on me!

Fashion Hunters: "Designer Squabbles and Hot Male Models"

"I barely eat." says the diva Wilhelmina model Bentley. A consigner brings in a bunch of dirty party designer pieces that beg to differ from that statement. Second time around gals say no way unless she brings them back dry cleaned. Fail Sale!

Bentley then returns this time with freshly dry cleaned clothing. She's told she will only get 220 dollars, Bentley basically says that at this price she's been raped as she gives in and sells both items.
Seriously.

Next.

Wilson- get to work on the Men's section already, we are already 5 episodes into the season! Wilson's goal: to see a six foot male model walk through the door who wears "leather underwear." (Shrugs).Wilson seems to have a limited eye on the male clothes rack.  Tara makes some vaild points that his picks only appeal to one kind of man....one with "flava." How very kind of her.

Ugh, Ambria has to bring Wilson along to a home visit consigning sesh. She's not too thrilled (I sympathize) which means entertainment is probable. They end up collecting a few crazy high fashion Jeremy Scott pieces from a male model who got these for free from walking in his shows. Pretty cool but I wonder who would actually buy a shirt with telephone number buttons on them. I don't get it.

Ambria and Wilson also scored fashion show tickets to Jeffrey Fashion Cares and over 1k of fashion goods.

One last parting gift, Wilson seems to have achieved his said goal from earlier on - six foot male model wearing (not quite leather underwear but close) speedos at the fashion show. Hmm maybe we will give him another chance.

Color Block Nails

Color blocking is on trend and not just for clothes!

I decided to create a fun fashion statement with two of my favorite colors, pink and navy. Nail color blocking is super easy to do. Just follow my simple tutorial here.

Step 1: Start with two of your favorite complementing colors. I went with  "Arm Candy" by Sephora OPI and  "Mezmerised" by Essie.

Step 2: Paint half of you finger nails with one of your colors, making sure to alternate from the bottom of one nail to the top on the next nail as seen here:

* Side Note: I found that using your polish brush sideways helped to keep the halfway line of color straight.
Step 3: Fill in the rest with the second choice of color on both hands.

And here you have it a color blocking-statement making nail art!
I'm loving pink and red color blocks, I'll be trying that next!

Fab Five Friday

Making shredded pork tostadas with my husband was fun and delicious! Best thing I ever ate status.

Super cute Steve Madden "Dudette Ice" flats. I imagine wearing these with a flowy skirt & over sized sweater.

Gold, Cream and Stud Cuff. 'Nuff said.

Got my Harper's Guide in the mail this week. It was free because I purchased an item from their top ten list during September-being those Missoni for Target ballet flats.

And last but not least, a throw back Halloween costume. Are you a child of the 80s? Then you should know this one ;)

Have a great weekend!
